Live Your Greatest Life, Do What You Love

I can't believe it's September with the last long holiday weekend of summer behind us. Many of us plan barbecues with family and friends, spend the day at the beach or lake, enjoying water sports or just relaxing with a good book while we breathe in the summer air.

When talking to a few friends during the week and reading posts on social media, I realized that many of us have forgotten "why" we celebrate Labor Day. Most people view it as a much needed break from work and count the days to the next long weekend or holiday.

Why is that?

Yes, we do need to take time to refuel, spend time with family and enjoy the things that we love to do, but what I found is that many people don't love their jobs. They are exhausted because they don't enjoy what they do, they've become robots working "9 to 6" and with todays technology where our devices have become a 5th appendage, we are expected to check and respond to emails 24/7.

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle - Steve Jobs

Why do we stay in jobs that don't challenge and fulfill us? Mindset plays a HUGE part. I've heard a lot of excuses (hey, I've been there)...

  • I don't want to start over
  • I don't have the required college degree
  • I don't know what I want to do
  • What if no one wants to hire me
  • I'm not good enough
So now you are thinking, Brenda, what does this have to do with living a healthy lifestyle?

It has everything to do with living a healthy lifestyle. If you are not happy with your job, you're most likely not happy with the direction of your life. Many people turn to food and/or alcohol for comfort. Depression may set in, we lose our ability to handle stress, become moody & short with our loved ones, lose our motivation and ability to move forward. We no longer like ourselves.

Did you know that many of the comfort foods we eat raise our cortisol levels which in turn throw off our hormones creating:

  • mood swings
  • sugar cravings
  • unwanted weight gain
  • belly fat
  • insomnia
  • low libido
  • leaky gut

The list is endless. The bottom line here is that if we don't take care of ourselves, we aren't allowing our greatest selves to flourish and live the abundant life we've dreamed about.

How My Client Re-Captured Her Spirit

One of my clients, who was in her early thirties came to me because she gained over 10 pounds in the last year and no matter how hard she worked out, she wasn't able to shed the excess weight. She didn't feel great in her body. She also complained of low energy and joint pain. As we worked together, I realized that I was not only helping her lose the weight through clean eating but also coaching her on other areas of her life; career, relationships, spirituality....

At the end of our time together, she discovered which foods serve her well and fuel her body. She trimmed down and lost the excess weight, left her job, followed her passion starting her own business; re-captured her spirituality and is at a better place in her relationship.

"The nutrition was a catalyst for change in other parts of my life that I was unhappy with"

Her high confidence level and motivation was fueled by feeling great in her body, mind and spirit. By taking better care of herself, eating foods that nourished her whole being, setting her body in harmony, she was able to move forward out of the rut she was feeling when we began working together.

What I wish for you all is to live your happiest, healthiest life. Don't be afraid to follow your passion and live your greatest self. You deserve it!
